About the Book
The present book entitled:
India and the Contemporary World: Emerging Partnership in the 21st Century critically examines the political, economic, scientific and technological, defence, military and strategic co-operation and collaboration between India and the countries of the world, with a special focus on major powers. The two volumes book has been divided into eight sections. Volume one deals with India’s relationship with South Asia, Central Asia, South-East Asia and the Asia-Pacific region. The second volume deals with India’s relations with North and South America, Europe, Middle East and Africa. This book is the original, comprehensive and critical analysis of India’s emerging partnership with the post-Cold War World. It is hoped that this book would be an invaluable source of information and knowledge for academicians, researchers, diplomats as well as policy-makers in addition to the common readers of international relations and India’s foreign policy.

H.P. Chattopadhyay, an eminent teacher of Political Science and International Relations taught in several colleges under Calcutta University, Kolkata. India’s Foreign Policy has been his special area of teaching and research. His work Ethnic Composition and Crisis in South Asia and Global Encyclopaedia of Political Science are one of the widely acclaimed publications. In addition, he has published many research papers and articles in national and international journals. Presently, he lives a retired life and devotes his time in editing and writing.
Surya Narain Yadav is an eminent political scientist specialising on India’s foreign policy, with a particular focus on bilateral relations. The role of globalisation in the determination and operation of foreign policy, especially with regard to regional organisations and international institutions is his special field of investigation. The author visited Portugal (Europe) in 2001, and Uganda (Africa) in 1999 and 2000 for undertaking academic and research assignements. His prominent publications include, India-America Strategic Partnership: Experiences and Expectations; India-Uganda Relations: A New Model for South-South Cooperation. He has written over 10 books. The author was nominated for the Chinese government fellowship, a joint research programme by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (Government of India) and the Government of the People’s Republic of China in the year 2001.
